Very few expected Tottenham Hotspur to pick up a positive result at Anfield, but it's safe to say that most fans of the club expected them to put up something resembling a fight after last week's good second half performance against Southampton. Instead, what they got was a team that didn't have a clue and a very comfortable 4-0 victory for Liverpool.
The match was virtually over after just two minutes. Spurs' midfield crumbled, allowing Glen Johnson to run free down the right flank and hit a cross into the center of the box. It took multiple deflections, eventually hitting the back of Younes Kaboul's foot and rolling into the back of the net.
In the 23rd minute, Jan Vertonghen had to come off injured. Michael Dawson was on the pitch for just 20 seconds when he made an error leading to a goal. He tried to touch a long ball by Steven Gerrard back to Kaboul, but instead found Luis Suarez, who barreled through Kaboul without much of a problem before finishing.
Things didn't get any better in the second half. Coutinho added Liverpool's third goal in the 55th minute from 15 yards out and Jordan Henderson completed the scoring in the 75th minute with a free kick that Suarez dummied to confuse Hugo Lloris.
Late in the match, Roberto Soldado was forced to come off with an injury, adding a second injury to the insult that was getting completely steamrolled and never looking involved in the game at all.
