Inter Milan have cut ties with Romanian international defender Cristian Chivu, who hasn't played a single competitive match for the club this season. He's spent just over six seasons at the club and was one of their best defenders in his prime, but he's 33 years old and injuries have caught up with him.
So, of course, he's linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
Inter Milan have announced the contract of Romanian Cristian Chivu has been cancelled by mutual consent. He has been linked with Spurs.

Nevermind that Younes Kaboul hasn't been offered a new contract yet, presumably because of fitness issues. Let's sign a guy who hasn't played for Inter this year despite being a perfect fit for Walter Mazzarri's system. Perfectly logical.
There was a time when Chivu would have been a brilliant signing for Spurs, but that time passed a few years ago. He's well on the downslope of his career and it's tough to see him having a significant impact for a team chasing Champions League in Serie A or the Premier League. He's another William Gallas at absolute best.
Update: Chivu has retired.
