Earlier in the day on Wednesday, The Guardian published an article stating that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Belgian strikers Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke. We addressed the Lukaku rumor earlier because his agent talked about Spurs' interest, but we didn't get a chance to touch on Benteke. And, as it turns out, there's almost no chance someone pays a significant sum of money for him this summer.
According to Belgian football reporter Kristof Terreur, the Aston Villa striker has a torn Achilles tendon. Assuming that Terreur is correct -- and he's never wrong about Belgian players -- Benteke will miss the World Cup for sure, and depending on the severity of the tear and how well his rehab goes, it's possible that he could miss a significant chunk of next season.
Christian Benteke has torn his achilles tendon. No World Cup for him. #avfc

With Benteke on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, he'll be remaining with Aston Villa. They'll want to take their chances that he recovers to be a key player for them and/or increase his value, as opposed to letting him go on the cheap.
