We've assumed for a while that Mauricio Pochettino was the favorite to be the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur. Ever since the rumors started making the rounds that Daniel Levy was a bit put off by Frank de Boer's desperation, Pochettino has been the assumed front-runner, but no one with any authority has decided to put their name on a story calling him the top man for the job. Until this afternoon, at least.

Gianluca Di Marzio -- who you may recall was all over the Gareth Bale, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela stories last summer -- is reporting that Pochettino is the favorite for the Spurs job.

The clear favorite at the moment is Mauricio Pochettino; the Southampton coach has really impressed Spurs with the quality play and efficiency of his current team. The alternative could be De Boer, [but] Pochettino is at the top of Spurs' wish list.

And there you have it. Of course, there's the rumor swirling around that Pochettino has to talk to the press in English if he takes the job, which I hope won't be a hang-up. Hopefully his English is good enough now that he's not afraid of saying the wrong words and creating a media firestorm.
