We've all known for quite some time that Tottenham Hotspur could never sell Gomes, nor would they make any attempt to retain him. His exit was set for June of 2014, and he will, in fact, exit in June of 2014. Tottenham made it official on Thursday, because that was totally necessary.
Heurelho Gomes is to leave the Club at the conclusion of his contract next month and we would like to wish the popular goalkeeper all the best for the future.
Popular used loosely, here.
I'm not going to dedicate a post to trashing a player who seems like a pretty nice guy, and who probably always tried his hardest, but he's been out of favor for a few years for good reason. We've been counting down the time until we could get his wages off the books, much like we did for David Bentley, William Gallas, Ryan Nelsen and Louis Saha. That's some esteemed company.
Good luck to Gomes in the future, and Praise Levy that we now have £70k a week to spend on someone else.
