Tottenham chasing AS Roma duo

Back to Roma we go!

Paolo Bruno

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with AS Roma over Mattia Destro and Mehdi Benatia, according to Sport Italia, via Tribal Football. But here's the thing: Nobody besides Sport Italia has it and they only had it on TV, supposedly, so we can't even confirm that they had it.

According to the report, Franco Baldini is meeting with Roma officials to get the deal done so let's see how this makes sense and is believable:

- Spurs need a centerback and maybe a striker too.

- Baldini has relationships at Roma, bought Erik Lamela from there, and thinks rather highly of some Serie A players.

Now let's see why this doesn't make sense:

- There is no price mentioned and we still have absolutely no confirmation that this was even reported.

So that's where we are. Transfer season is fun.

Destro would be a good signing, giving Spurs another forward and a young one at that. The 23-year-old scored 13 goals in 20 Serie A appearances last season, only 14 of which were starts. Sure, he goes offside a lot, but he puts the ball in the net. Also relevant, Arsenal want him.

Benatia is 27 years old and doesn't have the tantalizing ability of Destro, but he is good. The Moroccan international would immediately be Spurs' second-best centerback, but he also just moved to Roma for €13.5 million last summer so he wouldn't be cheap.

Whether these would be good or bad signings is still up in the air, as well as whether there's even any truth to the possibilty of these signing. We don't have nearly information to determine good or bad, such as, you know, price, but they are both good players and being linked to good players is better than being linked to bad players.
