Iago Falque set to join Genoa in Serie A

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

News out of Italy today as multiple sources are reporting that Tottenham's young winter Iago Falque is set to move to Serie A club Genoa on a permanent deal. Gianluca DiMarzio says that the deal has been completed, and that Falque is en route to Italy to complete a medical before the papers are signed.

There are no details yet on the financials of the deal.

Falque, 24, featured for Spurs in Tottenham's preseason friendly matches in North America, but hasn't really made an impact on the first team since joining the club from Juventus two seasons ago. Since joining Spurs he has been loaned to Southampton and Almeria, and spent all of last season at Rayo Vallecano where he was a solid, if not spectacular, contributor.

It's not a surprising development. Falque was well down the depth chart at winger for Spurs, and at 24 he no longer has the benefit of youth and promise at his side. A fresh start in Italy could help re-start his career, and Lord knows he could probably help Genoa, which finished 14th in Serie A last season.

We'll wait for official confirmation from the club, but it does appear as though this is actually a thing.
