Determined. Tottenham Hotspur faced uphill battles twice this week, dealing with a man sent off against West Ham and a 1-0 deficit away to AEL Limassol. But Spurs fought back twice, earning a 1-0 win away to West Ham and 2-1 victory over AEL in Europa League play. Harry Kane has been the difference maker so far, setting up the game winning goal against the Hammers and scoring the game winner against AEL.
In the way today is QPR, coming off a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Hull City in their season opener. QPR are back in the top flight after a season in The Championship, where a last minute playoff final victory earned the team promotion. Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is in charge of QPR, and he will look upon former Spurs' center back Steven Caulker and new arrival Rio Ferdinand to stop the Lilywhites' attack. Loic Remy and Charlie Austin wasted precious chances in the season opener, so QPR's strikers will need to improve if they can take down Tottenham in the season opener.
As for the Prediction League, all but Ashlock, Ed, and Salmon Chase foresaw Tottenham beating West Ham. The rules remain the same in the Prediction League -- one point for a correct prediction and a bonus point for getting the score correct. Here are the current standings:
This week's predictions:
Ed: Season really gets going here. 3-1 Spurs.
Uncle Menno: Spurs 2-1 Queens Park Redknapps. Remy gets his goal, Harry tries to sign Dawson, Friedel, and Mido after the match.
Kevin: QPR suck. 3-0 Spurs.
Mechanick: Spurs feel the after-effects of their Europa League trip to Cyprus, but Christian Eriksen gets his first of the season to earn Spurs' a victory. 1-0 Spurs
Ryan: 2-0 Spurs. Erik Lamela will send Harry's jowls wobbling all the way back to Loftus Road.
Bryan A.: Europa league hangover will be in full effect. 1-1 Draw.
Salmon Chase: 3-0 Spurs. The boys look flawless in a stunning tribute to our departed friend Dean Ambrose.
Ben Daniels: 2-0 Spurs. Erik Lamela will send Harry's jowls wobbling all the way back to Loftus Road.
Dominic Wood: 2-0 Spurs. Lamela and Soldado show us what love is.
Michael Caley: 2-1 Spurs. We'll probably win. I have no idea by what score, but 2-1 is a score, so it could be the one.
Skipjack: 2-1 Spurs. Top, top result.
Brett Rainbow: Tired from their Europa League exertions, Spurs struggle to a 1-0 victory.
