With Ryan Mason hurt, Nabil Bentaleb on his way to the Africa Cup of Nations, and Capoue exiled to Siberia, Tottenham probably need to be looking at midfielders. One of the more exciting names we've been linked to is Adrien Rabiot. Well according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham is closing in on a loan deal for the 19 year old Frenchman.
The move would be interesting, as Spurs aren't typically in the habit of loan deals. At first blush, this is a bit crazy for PSG. Rabiot is young, talented, and French. However, PSG is bursting with expensive talent and apparently the manager hates his guts. At the same time contract disputes have played a role on putting him on the outs with the team. According to the report there is no option to buy here, but I find it hard to imagine Levy would do this if he didn't think he has a better than average shot at signing the midfielder in the summer on the back of this move.
However, before you get too excited, #SkySportsUnderstands that nothing is happening.
Honestly, who knows what all this means. Rabiot has been linked to Juventus and Roma so it would make sense that Gazzetta would have some knowledge of what's going on here. Sky obviously has ties to Spurs, but both outlets are part of the European soccer media, so this could all be much ado about nothing.
I hope we get Rabiot. He's the kind of elite cast off we should be targeting at Spurs. He's got buckets of talent, he's available, he's interested in playing here, there's been credible links between him and Spurs, AND he fits in perfectly into our midfield. Readers of the site will know how excited we've gotten about this. Like I said, a loan without an option to buy doesn't make a ton of sense, but given how canny a transfer operator Levy is, I imagine there's more to it than that.
Make it happen Spurs.
