Traveling Spurs supporters injured after Anderlecht fans storm pub

Proving football hooligan idiots don't just exist in Italy or the Balkans.

In the latest example of this-is-why-we-can't-have-nice-things, the Daily Mail is reporting today that a group of traveling Tottenham Hotspur football fans were attacked in a pub in Belgium by a mob of Anderlecht supporters on Wednesday night, apparently unprovoked.

According to the report, a group of 50 or so Tottenham supporters were drinking and watching football at the Bar BQ pub in Brussels when it was stormed by a group of Anderlecht supporters who proceeded to throw chairs, break glass, and attack the Spurs fans. No serious injuries were reported, but two Spurs fans were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and eyewitness reports claimed that there was "a lot of blood."

Obviously none of us were there and are relying on eyewitness accounts and reporting from the English media, but it is distressing to once again see apparently peaceful football fans attacked, seemingly without provocation before a Europa match on the continent. Spurs fans haven't been involved in violence on the continent since the attacks on supporters in Rome and Lyon three years ago.

There is a history of hooliganism between Anderlecht and Tottenham that goes back to when a Spurs fan was shot before the first leg of the 1984 UEFA Cup final, but you normally don't think of Belgium as a hot-bed of Ultra-related fan violence. Guess it just proves that there are idiots in football everywhere.

Fighting is dumb. Football-related fighting is just moronic.
