It's an early Christmas present: a transfer rumor involving Tottenham Hotspur from a Spanish source that doesn't involve selling Spurs' best players to Real Madrid! Spanish daily MARCA is reporting that two-time defending Europa League champions and recent Champions League dropouts Sevilla are interested in bringing Spurs central defender Federico Fazio back to Andalusia.
Plug that into the Google machine and it'll read that Fazio is being considered as one of a couple of options to bolster Sevilla's defense as they prepare for the Europa League and the Copa del Rey. Later in the article, it suggests Sevilla are also looking into Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia for a half-season loan with an option to buy.
Spurs purchased Fazio from the Rojiblancos in the summer of 2014 after Tottenham failed in their attempt to buy Villarreal defender Mateo Musaccio, and he was pretty good for them. Exceptionally good at being tall, Fazio made 31 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, but has proved to have the mobility of an inanimate carbon rod and quickly fell out of Mauricio Pochettino's favor. Fazio has made precisely one appearance for Spurs all year, in the 2-1 League Cup loss to Arsenal, a match in which he was, well, pretty bad.
This is MARCA, so naturally you should not take this as anything even remotely close to gospel, but the fact that Cameron Carter-Vickers is making Spurs benches over Fazio is pretty strong anecdotal evidence that Fazio's gotten the Younes Kaboul treatment and is not long for Tottenham. Spurs will assuredly try and ship him off somewhere.
The tl;dr: MARCA sucks, but so does Fazio. So Federico to Sevilla? Sure, why not!
