Tottenham Hotspur's Shaquile Coulthirst is heading back to League 2 on loan. The 20-year old English striker is set to join York City until the end of the season.

Coulthirst spent much of this season on loan at Southend United, a team that is currently in the mix for the League 2 playoffs. Shaq made 25 appearances for the Shrimpers, scoring 4 goals during his time there. Now he returns to League 2 to help a York team that is struggling. York is just two points above the relegation zone and recently lost striker Wes Fletcher to injury. It's not clear whether Coulthirst will start for the Minstermen, or whether he'll be a depth signing, but he was obviously targeted as a player who can help keep them up.

Shaq is a youth player with bags of potential. We ranked him #8 on our list of Tottenham youth players back in 2013, noting in particular his strength and nose for goal. He hasn't quite broken through enough to catch the eye of Mauricio Pochettino for the first team yet, but keep in mind that last season Harry Kane was having a not-especially-great loan season at Leicester City. There's time for Shaq yet. A good performance for a relegation-threatened club might just be what he needs to kick his development ahead a couple of notches.
