Writer's Prediction League: Tottenham Hotspur at Newcastle United

The Cartilage Free Captain writers predict the outcome of today's match between Tottenham and Newcastle United.

Disaster. Tim Sherwood returned to White Hart Lane last weekend, as his Aston Villa team looked to avenge his sacking by Tottenham Hotspur after last season. Sherwood did just that, as Spurs lost 1-0 in an insipid home performance. The loss has Spurs now sitting in 7th place, nearly entirely out of the race for fourth place. The last six games of the season will do a good bit to show the progress that Mauricio Pochettino has made in year one as manager.

Spurs travel to Northeast England today to take on Newcastle United, currently going through their only struggle for form. The Magpies have lost five straight league matches, leading to rumored boycotts and protests being scheduled for today's match. Newcastle will be hampered by the suspensions of  Moussa Sissoko and Papiss Cisse, but the return of Fabricio Coloccini should boost the Newcastle backline. Can John Carver turn around his team's form in light of all the negative momentum the club is facing?

As for the Prediction League, nobody foresaw Spurs losing to Aston Villa. The rules remain the same in the Prediction League -- one point for a correct prediction and a bonus point for getting the score correct. Here are the current standings:

Name
Score
Ben Daniels 24
Michael Caley 23
Dominic Wood 20
Kevin 17
Brett Rainbow 16
Mechanick 14
Salmon Chase 14
Bryan A. 13
Dustin Gerber Martin 13
Skipjack 10

This week's predictions:

Dustin Gerber Martin: Newcastle are a sack of hot garbage right now. But then, so are Spurs. 1-1 Draw.

Kevin: Newcastle sucks, 3-0 Spurs

Mechanick: We're going to Carver them up. 1-0 Spurs

Bryan A.: Um....draw, I guess? 0-0 Draw

Salmon Chase: One day we won't suck, this is not that day. 1-1 Draw

Ben Daniels: Newcastle sucks and Pochettino is finally going to stop doing dumb things and pick a team that works. 3-0 Spurs.

Dominic Wood: 2-1 Spurs. Because I am actually an incredibly elaborate AI.

Michael Caley: Newcastle have been so awful recently I'm even picking them to lose to Spurs. 2-1 Spurs

Skipjack: 1-1 Draw, and I probably don't enjoy it.

Brett Rainbow: No Pardew, no party. 2-1 Spurs.
