Spurs to offer two players plus cash for England U-21 international

Could Tottenham Hotspur offer two players with England caps for Saido Berahino?

In what might be the most fun rumor of the silly season, The Mirror is reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to offer West Bromwich Albion both Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon, plus cash, for Saido Berahino. The move, if real, would kill a number of birds (3, I guess) with one stone.

Getting rid of Lennon and Townsend, while perhaps not the best idea in the eyes of some, would trim the squad of two players that Pochettino clearly does not value as highly as others at his disposal. Adding Berahino would give Spurs a proven striker to deputize for Harry Kane, but also a player who is more than capable of playing as a wide attacker. In fact, Berahino and Kane have often played together for the England U-21's with Kane up top and Berahino out wide.

The fact that Berahino's other rumored suitor is Newcastle should be good news for Spurs or really any team interested in the West Brom striker. Newcastle, despite the appointment of Steve McClaren, are likely to be a dumpster-fire next year. Also, the suggestion that Newcastle are willing spend £20 million on Berahino, after balking at spending £15 million on Charlie Austin seems ludicrous.

Berahino is going to be a hot commodity this summer and while I doubt that a swap deal like this is even remotely a possibility, the suggestion that Spurs are targeting Berahino makes a lot more sense than the rumored links to Anthony Martial.
