Harry Kane and Tom Carroll are returning home. England's U21 squad flamed out of the U21 European Championships after a 3-1 loss to Italy in the Czech Republic, a loss that knocked them out of the competition.

Marco Benassi scored a brace for Italy after Andrea Belotti's opener, but thanks to a draw between Portugal and Sweden, Italy will not advance to the semifinals of the tournament. Portugal won the group with five points, while Sweden came in just behind with 4, and advances over Italy due to goal differential.

It was not a great tournament for England, nor was it particularly good for the three Tottenham players selected in Gareth Southgate's squad. Despite a number of powerful shots on target, Harry Kane was held scoreless in all three matches despite playing every minute of the tournament. Attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard picked up an ankle injury in the second match against Sweden and was sent home, while Tom Carroll started the opening two matches in central midfield but was an unused substitute against Italy.

Now that England has done an England thing and departed too early from a major tournament, all three of Spurs' players can come home and relax for a while before the start of pre-season. Which is good, because all three of them need it pretty desperately.
