Tottenham Hostpur have something of a kinship with the nation of Belgium, lately. Already on the senior roster are Belgian internationals Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembélé, and Nacer Chadli. We've already reported that Toby Alderweireld might be close to joining the ranks at White Hart Lane, and if rumors are to be believed, Daniel Levy isn't going to be happy unless he buys the entire Belgian National Team.
According to reports published by London24, Mercato and The Metro, Levy has made a bid for someone not named Anthony Martial at AS Monaco, turning his attention to Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. Depending on what report you read, the bid was anywhere from £9.9 million to £12.5 million, but it appears that Monaco are holding out for the neighborhood of £18 million.
The 21-year-old Belgian International has three caps for his country's senior squad and has played at just about every level of their youth teams, starting with the Belgian U-15 squad. For AS Monaco, Carrasco has played mainly as an advanced right winger in the Ligue 1-side's attack, and has shown to be a solid choice, scoring 15 goals in 81 appearances since 2012.
You might also remember him from this past season's Champions League as he scored the final goal in Monaco's 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates.
Our own Michael Caley has crunched the numbers on him and came up with 16 NPG+A in 2800 minutes, 15.1 xG+xA, which is about on the money. It's also very good for a kid who is only 21 and playing in a top division and the Champions League.
So what do we know about him? Carrasco is definitely a talent that could grow into something much better than he already is. He isn't the fastest winger out there, but he's definitely pacy, which would be a great asset in the attack. During his Champions League appearances, he was shown torturing the flank against Arsenal, though he has a propensity to make one too many moves and cough up the ball, but with a very young player, that is something that can be fixed.
Does this rumor have any legs? With multiple reports out there, one would have to believe that an approach has absolutely been made but nobody can agree on what was offered. We'll look for more, but this would look to be a player that would fit in well at White Hart Lane.
