Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason has withdrawn from the England squad after injuring his knee in training. The announcement was made on the Football Association's website and confirmed by Tottenham's official Twitter account.

This is indeed a major bummer for Ryan, who earned his second England call-up and was hoping to earn his second cap for his national team. The club did not indicate the severity of Mason's injury or how soon before he would be able to play football again. England play Ireland in a friendly this Sunday, and play Slovenia in a European Championship qualifier on Sunday, June 14.

Tom Cleverley, who just signed with Everton on a free from Manchester United, was called into the squad as Mason's replacement. Cleverley is coming off a season on loan with Tim Sherwood and Aston Villa.
