We already know that Eric Dier is one of the most promising young players at the club. An English lad who came up through Sporting's academy in Portugal, Spurs signed him last summer and he made an instant impact, scoring two goals in two matches from the right back position.
Already in his short tenure at the club Dier has shown a great positional flexibility, excelling in central defense and exhorting himself well as an emergency right back at the end of last season. He's also now become the club's first choice defensive midfielder and has for the moment silenced all of his critics. Mauricio Pochettino clearly has a great deal of faith in him, and he's repaid that faith through his on-pitch performances and now, this new contract.
Locking down Eric Dier is yet another "gimme" move for the club as they seek to consolidate the squad around talented, young players that will develop more over time. Dier becomes the latest young Spurs player to sign an extension after Nabil Bentaleb, Harry Winks, Joshua Onomah, and Alex Pritchard.
