Good news for one of Tottenham Hotspur’s academy graduates! Attacking midfielder Josh Onomah has earned his first call-up to the England U21 team, coming in the side for Derby County’s Will Hughes who had to withdraw.
This is the latest step in Joshy’s England career: Onomah has caps for England at the U16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 levels. This is the first time he’s made the U21s, and if he’s able to stay there he’s basically one step (and a whole bunch of good Premier League performances) away from earning his first senior call.
The U21s are participating in a couple of qualifiers for the UEFA U21 European Championships, which will take place in Poland next June. England play at Kazakhstan on Thursday before hosting Bosnia-Herzegovina on October 11 at Bescot Stadium in Walsall. England currently lead their qualifying group by two points over Switzerland.
Good luck to Onomah! Don’t get hurt.
