Within the past week we’ve now had two different stories break reporting on two of our star players unhappy with how contract negotiations are moving forward with our club.
First, reports broke (most credibly in the Telegraph) that Hugo Lloris, whose current deal expires in 2019, is unhappy with the deal being offered to him by the club and could look to move in the summer. Then this weekend similar stories began to leak out about Tottenham’s ongoing negotiations with Harry Kane. The story is from the Sun so all normal bat-country disclaimers apply.
That said, the story says that the player and club have put negotiations on hold due to their inability to reach an agreement. The story takes a major credibility hit with me though when it claims that Mousa Sissoko is on £95,000 a week. That would make him, I believe, the highest earner at the club and the idea that Daniel Levy would sign off on wages that high, when he has already paid £30m for the player, seems straight crazy to me. So I’m hoping the rest of the Sun’s tale is as accurate as their report on our misfiring French winger’s wages.
Obviously we did go through a similar saga earlier this season with Christian Eriksen. In his case, we negotiated a deal down from his reported demand of £150k per week to £70k. (If that report is true, Eriksen’s agent may be the world’s worst negotiator.) Assuming the Hugo and Harry reports are basically accurate (a big assumption in Harry’s case especially), here’s hoping that the story has an Eriksen-like conclusion. (And if Harry would want to start playing the way Christian did as soon as the new deal was finalized, that would be great.)
How are y’all doing today? Worried about Harry and Hugo? Nervous about West Ham? Angry that international football exists? Let’s talk. :)
