Once more into the breach! The United States Men’s National Team are in San Jose, Costa Rica in the second game of the Hex, and they’re in serious trouble. After dropping a 2-1 decision to Mexico last week, USA are in the unenviable position of having to get a win against their other CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica in San Jose.
How difficult is this? They’ve never done it. USA is 0-8-1 against the Ticos in Costa Rica, and that draw came back in 1985. They’ve had a better success rate in Azteca Stadium than they have in the Switzerland of Central America.
This should be a fun game to watch even if there wasn’t a Tottenham interest. And there is, but it doesn’t seem likely that Cameron Carter-Vickers is going to get on the pitch tonight in such a critical match. CCV got his first ever senior call-up in this break, but he could still technically declare for England if Jurgen Klinsmann doesn’t cap-tie him to the USMNT. I don’t think that would happen, considering Cameron has starred for USA at every youth level. But you never know.
Here’s your open thread for the match. The usual match rules apply.
