I’m hoping to get a more comprehensive tactics preview up later today, but for now here are three things to watch in this weekend’s game:
- Can Spurs get enough movement in the attacking third to create chances?
- Will Arsenal try to harass Victor Wanyama more in midfield in order to force turnovers in dangerous positions? Arsenal normally aren’t big on the high press but Leverkusen showed how vulnerable we are to it.
- Can someone unexpected step up for Spurs? If you made a list of players who really make this Spurs team work, the four players at the top of the list are probably Harry Kane, Erik Lamela, Mousa Dembele, and Toby Alderweireld in some order. We have lots of great players, but these seem to be the players that we can’t really replace in our XI. And, of course, they are the four likely to miss Sunday’s game. If Dele, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-Min, Vincent Janssen, or, hell, Mousa Sissoko want to etch their name in Spurs folklore, this is their chance.
Or, of course, another likely starter with a history of scoring against Arsenal could step up...
