Bat Country: Crystal Palace want Ben Davies on loan

Ah, the joys of following the club that gets ALL the rumors.

You might have heard, but the January transfer window is just a few weeks away. You may have just looked at your calendar and gone “Oh yeah, we can buy and sell players in January.” You may have noticed that we’ve already had a few dumb rumors to post on the site. Or you may have just desensitized yourself at this point because Tottenham Hotspur may as well be a transfer rumor magnet for any number of reasons.

In the last 24 hours, we’ve had the rumor of Eric Dier apparently unhappy at playing damn near every match and Spurs apparently wanting to spend another £35m on a player who may not even make our Starting XI on a regular basis. I feel like I’ve heard that second story before...

Anyways, let’s go ahead and throw out the trifecta of Bat Country before we watch Spurs throttle Tottenham Hullspur, shall we? This stupid rumor comes by way of The Guardian, where Alan Pardew apparently needs help at left fullback.

Crystal Palace are to explore the possibility of taking the Wales international defender, Ben Davies, on loan from Tottenham next month and have been made aware of the potential availability of the Aston Villa striker, Rudy Gestede.

Harmless enough lede, right? Surely we have some kind of hard evidence on this...

Davies, now restored to fitness after an ankle injury, has made only three Premier League starts this season and effectively operates as Danny Rose’s understudy at Spurs, where Mauricio Pochettino tends to use his full-backs in partnerships. The Wales international may find the opportunity of regular first-team football appealing, though Palace’s chances of securing him may actually depend upon Tottenham being successful in their own pursuit of Fulham’s highly rated Ryan Sessegnon.

Alright....I mean, I guess it makes some kind of sense when you take out his injury and the fact that Pochettino....wait, what was that at the end? Ryan Sessegnon? I mean, that would be great! Except that he’s 16-years-old and probably isn’t ready to jump into a full rotation for a Premier League club that is chasing the Top 4.

The best part is that this little part of the article probably makes way more sense than the Davies loan:

Swansea’s Neil Taylor may be an alternative to Davies, a team-mate in the Wales set-up, and would cost around £4m. The Welsh club could potentially seek to secure Jonathan Williams from Palace as part of any deal.

So, in short, this rumor is nothing more than the standard Bat Country garbage. We have no quotations from a player, coach, manager, or agent. There is nothing to suggest that Ben Davies is unhappy with his role at Tottenham. The only true evidence is the lack of starts that Ben’s had in the Premier League, which would be a somewhat viable argument had he not been hurt for a period of time and he knows his role with the club.

The Ryan Sessegnon portion of this is quite intriguing, though! If any real moves are going to be made in January by Spurs, I would expect it to be similar to a Dele Alli type move two years ago where a purchase is made with a loan back to the club he’s currently on. Sessegnon is looking like a possible stud at left back and I would be more than happy to have that be a purchase next month.

As for Davies? Take it away, Johnny Depp.
