Spurs won ugly by manufacturing goals. That’s worth celebrating.

On a day when we weren’t our best, we still managed to win 4-1 away to a team that is a very good bet to finish seventh or eighth in the table. Given the way we’ve been performing this year, that is no small thing.

What’s more, we’re level or better than Arsenal and City on goal differential and only one point off Arsenal and three behind City in the race for the top four. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea have all almost certainly been at or near their peak during these first 18 games. We have... not been. There is plenty of room for us to improve during the season’s second half. Unless we are wretchedly unlucky, it’s likely that Arsenal or Liverpool and maybe City will drop off the pace slightly. Given the way the first half of the season has gone, we should be very pleased to see the state of the table as we close out 2016.

What was your favorite match of the calendar year? My pick is the win against City last spring with this fall’s win against City as my number two choice. How about favorite goal? Give me Dele Alli’s late winner against Palace last January. Any others I should mention? Would love to hear your suggestions!
