Tottenham Hotspur’s festive period visit to the South Coast produced the club’s first away win since September 25, a span of five matches that featured trips to Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United. The match got off to a rather inauspicious start as Southampton took the lead within the first 90 seconds, but Spurs battled back and wound up with a 4-1 win.
In all honesty, the scoreline probably flattered Tottenham, but you have to take big wins where you can get them, especially when it comes against a team as defensively solid (at least at home) as the Saints. Spurs were fortunate to wind up playing against 10-men for more than half an hour as it allowed them to pad the score a bit.
