Happy Tuesday, Spursland!
Because things are proceeding according to plan at the moment for ol' Tottenham Hotspur, it is not easy to pick out a definitively terrible thing to talk about. We could all be self reflective and admit a terrible take we had from earlier in the year, but if the internet becomes a place for self reflection, I'm pretty sure none of us will be born, so let's go another route.
Let us talk about our favorite Spurs player that got a bit of stick from the supporters? In the end, none of us really hate the players, per se, but certain presences annoy more than others and fail to unite the fans' affections.
I, for one, always wanted Jermaine Jenas to live up to his billing and genuinely thought he might come good until it was very apparent after a few starts in 2010 and 2011 that he was never going to make the leap to the next level. I never disliked him, though, and genuinely felt bad, although it was a little funny, when Scott Parker was given the number eight shirt with JJ still on the squad.
In many ways, I think Erik Lamela is a bit like our one time midfielder turned pundit (although Lamela has a few more technical tricks in his locker). Both are supremely talented players that, when on song, really give the opposition fits, but are prone to inconsistencies, real or imagined, that leave supporters wanting more.
Admittedly, this isn't really terrible taste, more like naming B-list celebrities you don't think suck. It's still a good bit of fun, though. Go on and share your second rate Spurs crush; it's oddly liberating. I'll leave this for your viewing enjoyment.
And now for the "news":
Mauricio's agents are apparently in talks with Manchester United| Metro
Guess what? He didn't have an agent as recent as signing for Tottenham. He admitted as much in that 20 minute piece. Has all of that changed?
I know what hasn't changed. Rags are as useful for rumors as they are for toilet paper.
Garth Crooks puts Kieran Trippier in the TOTW| BBC
He also says there wasn't much between the two sides but Trippier's goal.
I once cooked for my grandma and she asked me why there were no peas in the pasta. There were. I didn't realize her vision had bottomed out until that moment.
I'm not saying Garth should see an ophthalmologist. I'm just saying.
Ben Davies is delighted for Tripps| Squawka
The headline should clearly read "One Levy special is happy for counterpart. FFS when will Daniel back the manager? #profitnotglory"
