Summer! Well, for the northern hemisphere

Shaun Botterill/Getty Images

Good morning!

Today is the summer solstice for all of us in the northern half of the globe. Sorry about that all you Aussies, South Africans, Brazilians, and others that might hang out around here. Trust me, we feel your short day pain.

I should celebrate by watching Dog Day Afternoon or Endless Summer, but instead I am thinking about one of the famed winter movie "Groundhog Day" in which Bill Murray is doomed to live the same day over and over again. Not going to lie--this is how I've been feeling lately. By this time of the summer transfer window, following the transfer news is basically the same, day in, day out, with different outlets picking up rumors and recycling them into something to get clicks until real news happens. It's mind numbing, but I'm not really complaining. A guy has to make a living somehow. (No, I do not really make a living doing this.)

So when we get a new rumor, it's like a first kiss and a birthday gift all rolled into one. No matter how bull**** it is, when a new rumor is in town, I can't stop thinking about it. Hopefully, today's bat country makes you learn about a new player and question your football hipsterdom, too.

And now for the "news":

Tottenham and Gunners in for Dutch winger| Express

Quincy Promes is no less than the third player that papers have claimed Mauricio was at the Ireland-Holland match to scout last month. I can't wait until we sign him! Does anyone know how many Van Persie's he's worth?

Chris Waddle thinks Eric Dier can be the diamond for England that lights the way| Express

Go on, Chris. Go on...dammit, you went on. And after you went on, you said that Vardy needs to start despite not being good at anything but running fast.

Roy: Harry Kane has looked good in training| Squawka

Code for he isn't starting.

I can't wait for Jamie Vardy to start this game and the next then be torn down by the press for missing a penalty against [insert team here] during the inevitable round of penalties that will bounce the Lions from the tournament. Not, you know, for being a referee abusing, racist guy.

Argentina ran all over Venezuela to set up USA-Argentina semifinal| SB Nation Soccer

Messi is alive, well, and pushing Argentina to a Copa America final. His paisanos and wannabe paisano/fans of the club that is more (insert eyeroll here) are following him around the States on a pilgrimage to see history.

And since I'm writing this before it all goes down, remember, no spoilers for this...
