Nobody move! According to numerous sources including Sky Sports, Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is set to undergo a medical at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a proposed summer transfer at White Hart Lane.

This would corroborate earlier reports that suggested that a fee had been agreed between Wanyama and Spurs and that a move was imminent. There hasn’t been firm reporting on the agreed fee (and there may never be considering Tottenham’s penchant for not revealing monetary details about player transfers), but there are rumors.

Don’t forget, Tottenham made a £20m bid for Wanyama on deadline day last summer, one that ultimately fell through because Southampton, still stinging from Spurs poaching Toby Alderweireld, didn’t want to play ball. I’d guess, knowing Daniel Levy, that the fee is probably £9m + performance or match escalators.

Wanyama only has a year left on his contract and has reportedly refused to sign a contract extension with Saints, so Southampton are ready to cash in on him for whatever they can get. Either way you look at it, £9m-11m for a solid rotation option to Eric Dier looks like a pretty shrewd piece of business.

Wanyama will be the first official transfer of Tottenham’s summer window, and they’ve still got some irons in the fire: they’re definitely looking to sign another striker, with Michy Batshuayi and Vincent Janssen high on their list, and have been linked with several central defenders and midfielders the past few weeks as well.
