There was no long drawn out saga this time around involving Spurs and Saints. In what looks to be a relatively smooth transfer, given that we've known for a few days that this was in the works, Tottenham Hotspur have officially confirmed the signing of midfielder Victor Wanyama from Southampton.
The 24-year-old Kenyan International will join Tottenham after making 80 league appearances for Southampton since 2013 when he joined Saints on a move from Celtic. Wanyama is getting a nice birthday present (he turns 25 on June 25th) in the form of what is expected to be a raise in wages and Champions League football. This move could have happened last season, but Southampton's asking price was too steep as the Saints wanted over £20m. The reported fee of between £11-12m will suit Daniel Levy as he's adding an energetic midfielder with Premier League experience who has also won a Scottish Cup with Celtic.
Wanyama will provide much needed cover in the defensive midfield primarily for Eric Dier, though the 6'2" Kenyan can push forward when needed. There will be more to talk about with this move in the future as we inch closer to the season, but for now we welcome Victor to the club!
