This FIFA 17 trailer makes us question what is real and what is virtual

New, comments

It's about that time of the year again. The hype for EA Sports' FIFA series is beginning to build back up as a new installment is starting to cycle in. Every year we see the same repetitive reveal structure. A short video to announce the 'big reveal' trailer. This year was no different as on Monday they released a 55 second teaser. Here it is in full:

If you look closely, you can see Harry Kane rocking what appears to be some kind of face scanner:

This year, EA has announced that the game will be utilizing a new engine for the series. When the game first made it's transition from old gen (Xbox 360, PS3) to the current gen (Xbox One, PS4) they broadly advertised their Ignite engine that would revolutionize sports games forever. Just three years later, EA are transitioning to the Frostbite engine that runs games such as Battlefield and Mass Effect 3.

If the teaser graphics are any indication of what the full game will look like, we can safely say it's a very wise move. Eden Hazard's player model looks almost identical to his real-life counterpart. It's almost impossible to tell the difference. I know that's a cliche in video game speak, but it's actually true in this instance.
