Even the Australian Death Flu can’t keep Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen down. A day after it was reported that Spurs’ star attacking midfielder might miss both of Tottenham’s preseason matches in Melbourne with a virus, it looks like he’s feeling better and is set to get some game time on Friday against Atletico Madrid.
“The plan is I'll be involved [against Atletico], yes,” Eriksen said in a press conference.
Eriksen is one of only a few big-name stars that Spurs sent along to Australia for the International Champions Cup. The clubs’ big-name stars such as Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Hugo Lloris, Kyle Walker, and Danny Rose were all left at home to get a few more days rest after a grueling summer that included participation in the Euro 2016 competition in France. Eriksen, Kevin Wimmer, Son Heung-Min, and Erik Lamela are perhaps the biggest names from last year’s team that made the trip to Oz.
Spurs are expected to lean heavily on Eriksen as a key member of Spurs’ attacking midfield this season, with big expectations on a high league finish and a Champions League campaign looming.
