Tottenham Hotspur are very close to completing the transfer of AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen. According to ESPN, Spurs are in the concluding phases of negotiations for the Eredivisie golden boot winner and the deal should be completed this week.

Janssen has scored 27 goals with AZ in the Dutch league this past season which put him on the radar for Spurs, who have identified him as their top transfer target. Janssen would be a rotation option to, and hopefully competition for, Harry Kane.

Janssen has already visited White Hart Lane to work out personal terms and ESPN reports that a delegation of Tottenham officials have travelled to Alkmaar to work out terms of Janssen’s transfer.

Janssen has been extremely outspoken in the past couple of days over AZ playing hardball with the transfer fee. AZ chairman Max Huiberts reportedly rejected Tottenham bids of €11m and €18m on the advice of American baseball executive Billy Beane, and Janssen publicly voiced his frustration in the media, calling Tottenham his “dream move” and actively pushing for AZ to accept Spurs’ offer.

This deal looks like it’s finally in the closing stages. The player desperately wants to come to Spurs, and Tottenham are keen to get the deal done. It’s okay to start getting excited now.
