Although Tottenham Hotspur are making moves in the transfer window to shore up the club ahead of the new Premier League season, equally important to Spurs is keeping their existing stars happy and bought into the system. According to the Guardian, Spurs and Harry Kane have agreed to a “deal in principle” on a new contract for Kane that will keep him a Spurs player through 2021, one year longer than his current deal.

The new contract, Kane’s second of 2016, would make Kane the club’s highest paid player, nearly doubling his weekly salary to near £100,000/week. While the agreement has not yet been signed, according to the Guardian it’s more a matter of details, and both parties have agreed in broad strokes to the new contract.

This is fantastic news for Tottenham supporters. Kane appears to be perfectly happy at Spurs and the club has absolutely no interest in selling him, as evident by the complete and utter lack of any transfer rumors surrounding Kane this offseason. After scoring 25 league goals last season and becoming the first EPL Golden Boot winner since Teddy Sheringham in 1993, nobody deserves to be the club’s highest earner more than Kane. Obviously, we wait to celebrate until the ink is dry on Kane’s signature, but this is exceptionally good stuff. One of our own.
