There isn’t any new news about Vincent Janssen that’s emerged in the past 24 hours, but there is news about his current club. Dutch newspaper AD is reporting that Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar is set to sign 23-year old striker Wout Weghorst from Heracles Almelo, possibly paving the way for Janssen to join Tottenham Hotspur.

This doesn’t mean anything dramatic has happened with Spurs’ negotiations with AZ for Janssen. As of today, nothing has changed: Janssen has still reportedly agreed personal terms with Spurs, and there’s also supposed to be a delegation in the Netherlands trying to hash out the transfer fee.

However, AZ very close to signing a 23-year old Dutch striker who scored 15 goals in the Eredivisie last season is a pretty strong indication that they’re preparing for life without Vincent. Janssen has been extremely outspoken in his desire to move to White Hart Lane, and Weghorst seems to be a pretty decent replacement for him, all things considered. He also has a really cool name. I want a name like “Wout Weghorst.”

This isn’t an announcement that an agreement has been reached or anything like that, but there now is a whole hell of a lot of smoke in the air. Stay tuned!
