Everton vs. Tottenham Hotspur team news: Jan Vertonghen set to play on opening day

Looks like we’ll have Janby Alderweirtonghen against Everton after all!

Good news, everybody! Team news is out for Tottenham Hotspur’s opening day match against Everton at Goodison Park, and it looks like Spurs will be rolling with their first choice defense. Mauricio Pochettino announced it via Spurs’ official Twitter account.

This is wonderful news for Tottenham. Vertonghen picked up an injury with Belgium during this summer’s Euros and he was expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks. I don’t think anyone was expecting that he’d be ready to go on opening day. Either Jan is an impressively fast healer or the injury didn’t turn out to be as serious as previously indicated. Either way, that’s a good thing.

However, pour one out for Kevin Wimmer. The poor guy just can’t get a break. Benched at the Euros with Austria, missed both preseason matches in Australia with either a black eye or a mild calf injury, and sidelined by Cameron Carter-Vickers in Norway. Now he’s set for the bench again thanks to Jan returning. Do you think he’s frustrated? I hope he’s not frustrated.
