Tottenham Hotspur defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday at White Hart Lane for their first win of the 2016-17 Premier League season. New signing Victor Wanyama got the only goal of the match, a flicked-on header off of a corner kick midway through the second half. The match was also a homecoming for Palace’s Andros Townsend, a Spurs academy graduate who was sold to Newcastle last January.
Tottenham put in a dominant performance over Alan Pardew’s Eagles, controlling possession and firing numerous shots on target, but despite being unquestionably the better side, they were only able to secure one goal. Vincent Janssen in particular had numerous opportunities on goal, and Harry Kane went close a number of times as well.
The win puts Spurs in seventh place after two matches, and more importantly gives Spurs a bit of a tailwind heading into next week’s important test against Liverpool at White Hart Lane.
