More news! Tottenham Hotspur just announced on Twitter that academy product Will Miller will be heading out to the Championship on a half-year loan to Burton Albion.

Miller was one of the surprises of the preseason for Tottenham. He had two good shifts in preseason action against Juventus and Atletico Madrid in Spurs’ preseason tour of Australia, though he played mostly out of position at left back. He’s Spurs’ U21 captain, and also is a former child actor, having played Oliver Twist in a BBC adaptation of the Charles Dickens book

Burton promoted to the Championship last season after finishing second in League One, and they probably could’ve used Miller’s help yesterday as they got hammered by Liverpool 5-0 in the EFL Cup.

A loan isn’t a terrible thing for a player like Will, but lately we’ve seen Mauricio Pochettino use loans as a means of raising player value before a sale to another club, so while this will likely be a good experience for Oliver Twist, it could be the precursor to his eventual departure from Spurs. But maybe not! If Pochettino likes what he sees from Miller and if he has a solid stint in the Championship, maybe he’ll be able to work his way into the side. Stranger things have happened.
