Tottenham Hotspur made a new signing! Lyall Thomas, writing for Sky, reports that Spurs have locked down the signing of teenage Colombian youth international Juan Pablo Gonzalez Velasco.
...Wait, you’ve never heard of this guy? Well, neither have I. Some digging turns up that Velasco is seventeen years old, and plays primarily as an attacking midfielder. He has one cap for Colombia’s U17 squad, but his career before that is somewhat of a mystery. He is a product of Brentford’s academy, and Spurs pounced on him when that academy closed down. Velasco had a trial at Burnley before landing at Spurs; he apparently made his Tottenham debut in a development league match this past weekend.
It had been hinted previously that Spurs were looking to bolster their youth ranks with the departure (and promotion) of several players this summer. You remember Shilow Tracey? This is that kind of signing. It’s likely we won’t see much of Velasco for a while, but he’s obviously got some youth talent or we wouldn’t have signed him.
In other words, don’t expect to see him play for the first team this season. But hey, a signing’s a signing!
