You’re all dying for Isco updates, so here’s the latest. AS, the Spanish daily paper, has a report out (in Spanish, naturally) that suggests that Isco is indeed likely to depart Real Madrid before the close of the transfer window, and that his destination will either be Tottenham Hotspur or Malaga.
There’s a bit to unpack here. First, the article claims that Mauricio Pochettino has personally contacted Isco about making a loan move to Spurs this summer, and has touted the idea of playing in the Champions League (something Malaga can’t offer) and also lots of playing time (something Real Madrid won’t offer). Spurs are in London, offer top-level football, and would be an interesting and unique challenge for him.
That’s great, but it might not be enough for Isco, especially when the alternative is a return to Malaga, his old club where he made his breakthrough in club football and where he’s still loved by the Malaga fans. Malaga may not be able to offer Champions League, but it may not matter to him since he literally just won the Champions League. Malaga would be a homecoming for Isco, and he’d be able to stay in Spain.
So that’s the good news, sorta: Spurs are still in with a shout! But if you’re a pessimist and want the depressing counter view, here’s Lyall Thomas saying that screw all that, the Isco deal’s dead, lol
Oh and the Isco rumour... BRAP BRAP BRAP (ding ding).... consider it dead #THFC pic.twitter.com/3c3wzm2d4s
