What a match! Tottenham scored four second half goals en route to a 6-1 dismantling of Inter Milan in a friendly match in Norway yesterday. It was the kind of match that made everyone affiliated with the club happy and optimistic. That includes Mauricio Pochettino, who in post-match comments on the club’s website said he was very pleased with his team’s performance in their final warm-up match before the Premier League.
“[I was pleased with] all of it! It’s true we need to analyze the game and improve in certain areas but I’m pleased with everything, very happy. The performance was good but in football, you can’t stop, you have to try to improve every day.
This was the first and only friendly for some of Tottenham’s biggest stars, as they were given extra time to rest and recuperate following this summer’s European Championships in France. Spurs got two goals from Harry Kane, and goals from Dele Alli, Erik Lamela, new signing Vincent Janssen, and youngster Shayon Harrison in the win, and Poche was pleased with how quickly his first team starters slotted into the side.
It was Spurs’ first win in their three public friendly matches after dropping two matches to Juventus and Atletico Madrid in Australia, a fact that was not lost on Pochettino.
“It was important to finish our pre-season in a very positive way and important to win. It was the first time the players involved in the Euros played and it was fantastic to see them all together.
“Now we have another week to prepare for the game against Everton and we will arrive ready to compete.”
Spurs open the Premier League season next Saturday against the Toffees at Goodison Park. The match kicks off at 3 p.m. BST (10 a.m. ET)
