Eric Dier hears people talking about his contract status at Tottenham Hotspur... and he’s okay with it, honest. Today, Spurs announced that the England international has signed a new contract that will keep him a Tottenham player through the 2021 season.

“I’m really looking forward to the future and that’s what makes it so easy to want to stay here - the fantastic manager we have, the great Club, the fans, all the infrastructure we have, the new stadium being built – it’s all really exciting and I want to grow with the Club at the same pace.

“It’s a pleasure to come here every day and I enjoy seeing everyone, it’s like playing football with your mates. There is a fantastic feeling around the Club. Obviously, when you play that many games for a Club and share good moments like we have over the last two years you create a very tight connection to the Club.”

(You forgot to mention Dele, Eric!)

Tottenham has put a concerted effort over the past season or so to consolidating their club around young talent. Part of that involves keeping that talent at Tottenham. Dier is the latest in a string of Spurs players who have renewed their contracts with their club and committed their future to the project that Mauricio Pochettino has started.

Spurs have also been quietly restructuring their wage structure with the new Premier League TV money. Spurs didn’t reveal Dier’s new wages, but the Evening Standard suggests he could be earning around £70k/week.

Dier is the latest in this string that started with Harry Kane this past summer and continued with numerous other players including Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele, and Christian Eriksen. Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela are also rumored to be working on new deals at White Hart Lane.
