Harry Kane carted off with ankle injury, and it doesn’t look good

Hello there, the angel from my nightmares.

This is not good. Tottenham beat Sunderland 1-0 today, but may have lost more than they gained. Many Spurs fan’s nightmares were realized when Harry Kane had to be carted off with what could be a serious ankle injury.

Kane scored the winning goal for Spurs in the 59th minute, but then he came together with Papy Djilobadji just minutes before stoppage time. Harry dove in to try and win the ball, but his right foot ended up getting caught on either the grass or on Djilobadji.

The resulting bend of his ankle is not pretty, so take that as a warning before you watch it.

Harry was in so much pain that he could barely make it off the field on two feet. The staff at White Hart Lane ultimately had to wheel a stretcher around to take him down the tunnel.

Vincent Janssen came on to replace him, but this injury could prove to be a major bit of adversity to Spurs’ season if Kane misses significant time. Janssen hasn’t been bad for Spurs since signing from AZ Alkmaar this summer, but he’s missed some chances and has yet to score his first goal. The bottom line is that no one can replace a world class striker like Kane.

After the game, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that it was an injury to Harry’s ankle. Poch did have some good news, in that Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele were just cramping when they were subbed out of the game with apparent injuries.

Let’s hope it’s not too serious, and that maybe his ankle is just twisted or sprained.

Kane, who won the Golden Boot in the Premier League last season, has been quite durable for Spurs. He started every league match last season and has arguably become Spurs most irreplaceable player since bursting onto the scene a couple years ago.

We are quite lucky that an injury like this didn’t happen last year. At least now we have a capable backup striker who can come in for Kane.

Please be okay Harry. It’s tough to picture Tottenham Hotspur without you.
