Roma ready to sign Tottenham defender on permanent basis

Oh hey, there you are Federico Fazio.

There’s more Tottenham Hotspur transfer news of the outgoing variety today. TalkSport is reporting today that Roma are super impressed with Argentine defender Federico Fazio this season, who is on a season-long loan in Rome, and supposedly Luciano Spalletti is ready to commit to signing him on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

I confess that I completely forgot that Federico Fazio is still technically a Tottenham Hotspur player. He never really made an impact at all while at Spurs, and has spent much of the past two seasons on loan at Sevilla (where he made a total of four appearances last year) and now Roma. Spurs signed him in 2014 on a four year contract for £8m

However, since breaking through into the first team at Roma earlier this season, Fazio has impressed and has become a fixture in their back line. According to Roma’s website, Fazio is described as a “colossus.” Which I suppose is a lot better than being, essentially, a marble column like he was at Spurs.

TalkSport confirms an earlier report from Roma made when Fazio’s loan was finalized that says they have an option to buy at the end of the season for €3.2m. This is good news for everyone. Fazio finally moves to a club where he’s wanted and is earning playing time, and Daniel Levy gets guaranteed money for a player who hasn’t taken the pitch for Spurs since September of 2015. Win-win!
