Tottenham Hotspur beat league leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane and have now won five straight league matches. Spurs have gotten hot at just the right time and have the points have gone a long way toward helping solidify Tottenham’s spot in the top four.

Against Chelsea, Spurs again ran out a back three and it again worked well, stifling Chelsea’s attack, save for a few good chances that fell to Eden Hazard. Unfortunately for Spurs, Chelsea were also pretty solid defensively and they prevented Spurs from creating a lot, save for the two chances which Tottenham put away.

On balance, this was a close game, closer than the scoreline indicates anyway, but Spurs were the more clinical side and deserved their victory.

Before we get to Chelsea, however, we have to go back to New Years day and rate the performances in Spurs’ 4-1 over Watford. Here's how the ratings work:

  5. Average
  6. Above Average
