After a fantastic 2017, Tottenham and South Korea attacker Son Heung-min has been named the AFC Asian International Player of the Year, winning the award for the second time. Son scored 22 goals in 2017, including 18 for Spurs in all competitions, and he tallied a further six assists. He had five multi-goal games, including a hat trick at home against Millwall in a 6-0 FA Cup win in March. On an international level, Son was an integral part of South Korea’s attack, and they qualified for the 2018 World Cup, which will be his second.
Son won the award for the first time in 2015 after scoring South Korea’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Australia, beating out former Tottenham man Massimo Luongo, among others. How he performs in 2018 is yet to be seen, but his 2017-18 season is off to a good start, with five goals and two assists for Tottenham. Congratulations Sonny!
