We now have more clarity on the role Steve Hitchen will play at Tottenham Hotspur. Last week reports emerged that the former Derby County Head of Recruitment will be joining Spurs in some capacity, though it was unclear as to whether he would be joining as Head of Recruitment or as chief scout.

Today, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Hitchen has joined the scouting team and will fill the role of chief scout previously held by Ian Broomfield. This is a different role from Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell, who is still serving out his notice at Tottenham through the end of this summer.

According to ESPN, the move has not been formally announced by the club, but Pochettino implied that it would be soon. This is Hitchen’s second spell with Tottenham; it was widely thought that he was the scout responsible for identifying Luke Modric as a target, and also served as a talent spotter for Liverpool.

The move will hopefully help assuage some recent concerns that have been swirling around the club’s scouting department since the announced departures of Mitchell, Broomfield, and Rob Mackenzie.
