EA Sports’ long running football franchise, simply known as FIFA with the corresponding year following the title, is getting to the point where marketing for the upcoming title is kicking in. While the new title, FIFA 18, won’t launch until sometime in September later this year, information trickles out based upon leaks and press releases. This information is the former, but most everyone in the football world is running with it.
According to the Daily Mirror (among numerous other sites), Tottenham Hotspur’s own Dele Alli looks to be pegged as the cover athlete for FIFA 18.
The FIFA series has had a pretty impressive list of cover athletes, including the likes of Lionel Messi, Marco Reus, Clint Dempsey, Kaka, Antoine Greizmann, Wayne Rooney, and many others. Alli would be joining a pretty impressive list of athletes.
I only use the term “would be” in this case because this is not finalized. There has not been an official PR released by EA Sports that confirms this, and there probably won’t be an official announcement for a period of time. Remember that, in past years, we heard various athletes rumored and ended up with “regional covers” like in FIFA 16 where Messi was on the cover along with a player from that country’s league.
That being said, when there are enough rumors out there that over twenty sites are reporting it, there’s probably a good reason. We’ll look for more on this here in the future, but Dele looks to be increasing his own brand in a big way.
