Beckham’s grandfather was a life-long Spurs supporter, and Becks trained with Spurs’ first team for a while in 2011.

We’re all still catching our breath from what a day it’s been. As Tottenham supporters, today has been an absolutely fantastic day — from clinching second place in the league with Spurs’ highest ever points total, to sending off White Hart Lane with a rainbow.

The notes of congratulations and respect continue to pour in from all over the footballing world, including from Manchester United and England legend David Beckham. Becks posted a very nice message to Spurs fans on Instagram, where he acknowledged that his grandfather was a life-long Spurs supporter and season ticket holder.

Whatever you think about Manchester United, David Beckham is one of the best English players of his generation. Hearing kind words about your club from a former player of that stature feels pretty good, especially as Tottenham closes a huge chapter in the history of the club.

I wasn’t aware that Becks had that close of a Tottenham Hotspur connection, but I do remember that he was welcomed by the club back in 2011. Beckham was a member of LA Galaxy at the time and was trying to get fit before the start of the MLS season. There are great photos of Beckham in Tottenham training gear as he worked with the first team, photos that made you think “What if...”

Thanks, Becks. We appreciate the sentiment.
