We’re all still catching our breath from what a day it’s been. As Tottenham supporters, today has been an absolutely fantastic day — from clinching second place in the league with Spurs’ highest ever points total, to sending off White Hart Lane with a rainbow.
The notes of congratulations and respect continue to pour in from all over the footballing world, including from Manchester United and England legend David Beckham. Becks posted a very nice message to Spurs fans on Instagram, where he acknowledged that his grandfather was a life-long Spurs supporter and season ticket holder.
Being a East End boy and Manchester United fan I always loved scoring against the London clubs , but there was always a slight guilt every time I scored against Spurs at white hart lane for one reason only my grandad was always watching and he had been a season ticket holder for 40 years but he loved every moment ... I have so many great memories from white hart lane from the age of 11 training there and then being sat in Terry Venables office being offered a contract ( obviously turning it down ) to captaining United in that famous comeback but the most memorable has to be the day of my grandads funeral when we celebrated his life in the stadium with family and friends... White hart lane will always be a big part of our family .. Thank you for the memories @spursofficial
Whatever you think about Manchester United, David Beckham is one of the best English players of his generation. Hearing kind words about your club from a former player of that stature feels pretty good, especially as Tottenham closes a huge chapter in the history of the club.
I wasn’t aware that Becks had that close of a Tottenham Hotspur connection, but I do remember that he was welcomed by the club back in 2011. Beckham was a member of LA Galaxy at the time and was trying to get fit before the start of the MLS season. There are great photos of Beckham in Tottenham training gear as he worked with the first team, photos that made you think “What if...”
Thanks, Becks. We appreciate the sentiment.
