Erik Lamela has another surgical procedure, on his other hip

The club doesn’t sound concerned about it, so we probably shouldn’t be either.

More injury-related team news! In addition to the earlier reports about Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, Tottenham Hotspur also announced via Twitter that Erik Lamela has had surgery... again.

If you noticed the bit that this current procedure was on his right hip while his earlier surgery was on his left hip, well, so did we. And on the surface that’s a bit concerning.

However, the report from the club doesn’t seem to indicate a whole lot of concern, and the fact that they call it a “planned procedure” suggests that it’s either minor, or part of the injury equation all along.

The truth is, we really don’t know what’s been wrong with Lamela this year, except that he’s been dealing with a pernicious “hip condition.” It might have been in both hips for all we know. This current procedure might have had to wait for the left hip to heal before they could do any repairs on the right hip. Only the club knows, and they’re not giving any details.

Regardless, it doesn’t impact Lamela’s recovery time, which means he hopefully will be back and ready to go for the start of next season.
