Christian Eriksen happy at Spurs, but “there aren’t many who say no to Barcelona.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen is currently with the Denmark national team preparing for tomorrow’s international friendly match against Germany, and a World Cup qualifying match at Kazakhstan on Sunday, June 10. And is usually the case, he was asked about his future at Tottenham Hotspur by members of the Danish football media.

Here’s what Christian had to say in an article in Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet:

Christian, can you say with certainty that you will play at Tottenham next season?

I still have a contract with Tottenham for a few more years.

What do you think of the rumors that are running on your football future?

There are always rumors about footballers.

But you are linked with Barcelona?

I was there at one point, and it was not very good. Barcelona are a great club. I don’t think there are many who say no to Barcelona.

...In the future I see myself at the highest level. That's what I dream about. It can be about two to three years. It may be in another club or it could be Tottenham if we have come all the way up.

Eriksen’s last comments about his experience at Barcelona being “not very good” are referring to him going on trial at Barcelona before he signed with Ajax. Ekstra Bladet said that he “touched the ball 3 times in one 90 minute match.”

So these are actually pretty boilerplate responses from Christian. Based on these comments, it seems Christian is pretty happy at Spurs and will continue to be happy so long as Tottenham continues to function at a high level and compete for big things.

He also, however, said “there aren’t many who say no to Barcelona,” which is also true, and if you want to give yourself something to worry about, that’s it. Because if Barcelona suddenly decides “Hey, that Christian Eriksen fella is pretty good, we should buy him” there’s a pretty good chance that he’ll want to go. And he should! He’s that good.

Thankfully, Barcelona doesn’t seem to be all that interested in Eriksen at the moment, and he continues to fly under the radar. Long may that continue.
